FAQ

General

petTracer is an ultralight tracker designed specifically for cats.

Built to be a safe and comfortable collar with one mission – to be able to locate your cat and rescue him wherever he is.

Unlike GPS, which struggles to work inside buildings, our Radio Technology can locate your cat even if they’re trapped inside a garage or shed.

While microchips are essential for pet identification, they only come into play once your cat is found and scanned at a rescue centre or veterinary clinic. This process can take days or even weeks. With petTracer you can track your cat's location in real-time. If your pet goes missing, you can locate them quickly, eliminating the guesswork and worry.

petTracer is only sold directly from our website.

Yes, the technology of petTracer works anywhere in the world.

No, petTracer is specifically designed for cats, which is why it works so effectively. Cats have unique behaviour patterns compared to other animals, such as dogs. The algorithms that make petTracer a reliable collar for cats wouldn’t function as well for other pets.

No, you don’t. You can connect and set up your petTracer collar in just a few minutes using the petTracer app on your smartphone.

No GPS device or tracker can guarantee this with certainty. However, petTracer offers the highest possible chance of finding your cat when needed. You will become familiar with your cat’s natural territory and favorite spots, which can help you know where to start your search. Additionally, petTracer's Radio Technology allows you to locate your cat even in areas without GPS signal.

Technical

Yes, the petTracer collar has a built-in beeper that you can activate remotely to help you locate it when it’s nearby but hard to see.

Yes, the petTracer collar includes a remotely activated LED light to help you locate your cat more easily in low-light conditions.

Whilst the petTracer collar should not be submerged in water for extended periods of time, it has been built to withstand all kinds of weather conditions while your cat is wearing it. We recommend cleaning it with a damp cloth only.

The petTracer collar comes in one size which is adjustable with the strap provided. The collar has a minimum circumference of 21.5 cm (approximately 8.46 inches), which fits the average cat. If your cat has a smaller neck you can add an inlay band to the inside of the collar which you can find on the Accessories page.

Thanks to our patented SafeTrace technology, petTracer provides up to 10 times more GPS positions per battery charge than most conventional GPS trackers. Depending on the mode you choose and your cat's activity levels, the collar can last up to 30 days. Here's an overview of the different modes:

LIVE: Updates every 15 seconds, regardless of activity.

FAST: Updates every 10 minutes when active and every 60 minutes when inactive.
NORMAL: Updates every 30 minutes when active and every 3 hours when inactive.
SLOW: Updates every 4 hours when active and every 24 hours when inactive.

The collar is charged using the HomeStation included in the Starter Set. It takes approximately 2.5 hours to fully charge the collar. You can set up email notifications to remind you when the battery needs charging.

The HomeStation is an essential part of the petTracer system, included in the Starter Set. It serves two purposes: it acts as a charging dock for the collar and functions as a radio signal receiver.

The HomeStation receives your cat’s GPS coordinates from the collar and sends them to petTracer's servers, allowing you to track your cat’s location on the map.

Yes, a Wi-Fi connection is necessary for the GPS coordinates of your cat to be forwarded from the HomeStation to the petTracer server.

Yes, you can still use petTracer with bad mobile phone reception as it doesn't rely on mobile phone signals for its everyday operation.

However, to locate your cat in an area where there is poor GPS signal you will need to make the HomeStation mobile and connect the HomeStation to the internet using your mobile phone's hotspot.

petTracer uniquely combines two search technologies: GPS and Radio Technology. GPS is the preferred method and is often sufficient on its own, but it doesn't work indoors. Please visit this page to learn more.

The petTracer collar typically has a range of about 0.5 miles, depending on your surroundings. Most cats stay well within this distance, and those that don’t come home are often not far away, usually trapped nearby.

If your cat goes out of range, don’t worry. The collar will continue recording GPS positions even when it’s out of coverage. Once your cat comes back within range, the map will automatically update with its full route.

In an emergency, you can also make the HomeStation mobile. Just connect it to your phone’s hotspot and plug it into a power bank. This lets you extend the range so you can track your cat again and even locate your cat inside buildings.

First, check the location of your HomeStation; it should be placed as high as possible and near a window. Some users opt to buy additional HomeStations and position them at opposite sides of the building to maximise coverage. HomeStations should never be placed in basements or garages.

The petTracer cat collar receives GPS coordinates from satellites which are then sent to your HomeStation. The HomeStation connects to the internet via Wi-Fi and shares your cat’s location with the petTracer server allowing you to see your cat’s position on your portal.

No, you can buy a petTracer Set with up to three collars. If you have more cats, you can buy a second petTracer Set. The petTracer app can show up to five different collars, and you can customise each one with your cat’s photo, name and colour.

SAFETY

The petTracer collar does not emit mobile phone radiation. Instead, it uses a radio signal similar to a baby monitor, with radiation levels approximately 100 times lower than a mobile phone signal. petTracer was designed from the ground up to prioritise your cat’s safety and well-being.

Yes, safety is a priority! The petTracer collar features a safety release buckle that opens if your cat gets into trouble. Plus, the built-in electronics ensure a sleek design, reducing the risk of your cat getting stuck, perfect for adventurous cats.
