"I could not be without a tracker. It is very reassuring to know his whereabouts".

Stanford came home without his collar and the tracker placed it in a very green, bushy area on the map. I assumed it was trees in a nearby neighbour's garden. I could actually see the garden from my bedroom window.
I went over to the property and knocked on the neighbour's door. No answer after a few attempts! Some people in the area said the man who lived there didn't like anyone on his property so I should get off it. I decided to write him a letter.
A week went by before he texted me. He was very intrigued by the collar and its GPS/radio functionality and it turned out he loved cats, having had several himself.
I was given permission to bushwhack through his back garden to find the collar. It wasn't only trees as I thought, but dense, big thorny overgrown thickets, fallen trees and tightly-woven bush. The collar was on top of an outhouse that wasn't even visible; it was so overgrown.
I cut a path with my garden shears to access the outhouse and climbed a tree to get on the roof where the tracker was saying the collar was located. Stanford was very curious about my bushwhacking expedition and joined in, following me and jumping up onto the shed roof, leading me to the collar himself.
The property owner said it was a favourite spot for cats to birdwatch. I had often seen the collar track to that location for several hours without movement on his outings and now I knew why. It was very insightful.
The collar had been out in the elements for over a week, nearly 2 if I recall. It didn't lose any battery after I switched the mode to slow to preserve it. Very impressive kit.
I have a really good idea of his favourite places. It is also interesting how he obsesses over some places for a while and then moves onto another area. There was a time when he used to favour a particular fir tree and I could walk over to it with confidence knowing he'd be in it.
I could not be without a tracker. It is very reassuring to know his whereabouts.
